Loire Valley 2015
"Chavignol is the best wine I have drunk. If all the people of my kingdom were to drink it, there would be no more religious wars." - Henri IV (1367 - 1413)
Indeed, six centuries later Loire Valley wines still have a unique and convivial spirit. They are vibrant and food friendly, affordable; and with their many varieties and styles, chenin blancs from Savenniere and Vouvray, cabernet franc from Chinon and "war-averting" sauvignon blanc from Sancerre, they also accommodate a wide range of tastes.
I am so excited to be in France for most of August. After two weeks of kayaking, sailing, swimming and cider tasting in Brittany, I will travel to the Loire Valley to meet and taste with a number of exceptional boutique wine producers. Throughout the trip I will post updates with producer profiles and wine information.

Chateau Chenonceau on the River Cher, a Loire tributary. Home to Gabrielle d'Estrées, mistress and trusted advisor to Henry IV. Later home to Catherine de Medici.
